Anyone with a camera can be a photographer or videographer? Right? No! It is the biggest mistake we make when couples are looking for wedding photographer and videographers. Photography and videography are a skill that relies on the person behind the lens for the most part but more so the planning and organizing of your vision before the big day.

A wedding day comes only once in a couple's life, and it takes months and sometimes years of planning. Just like you are planning everything else to be close to perfect, you must also plan to select the right photographer and videographers. Unfortunately, my wife and I did not prioritize having a top tier wedding photographer and videographer. We got married in 2007, we were in our early twenties and had very little money. We were gifted our videographer and photographer and unfortunately, they did not capture our day adequately. Because their services were gifts to us, we did not speak out about it for years because we did not want to seem ungrateful or too critical. But we literally have one image (see below) that we are okay with sharing. Every other photo is below satisfactory. When viewing our photos, you can recognize there was not any pre-planning for sites at the venue to take the pictures, pre-planning of poses for the wedding party images, pre-planning of poses for the bride and groom and overall lack of organization to capture our vision and true personalities. It was heartbreaking and frustrating. We have very little memories of that day and not much to share with our children. We NEVER want another couple to experience this!
Before we get into why picking the wrong photographer and videographer, we must say that we have been in a loving marriage for 15 years (2022 and counting) although we don’t have any wedding pictures or video 😊😊 and we know that everything is not going to be perfect, we really strive to capture your special memories. If you select the wrong photographer or videographer, you may have to face the following reasons for regretting your mistake.
The Wedding Photographer Not Being Organized
Wedding days can be very frantic, and you will have to depend on your hired vendors to pull everything together to allow things to go according to a predetermined timeline. Professional videographers and photographers should know how they will be covering the event, so they provide a timeline to follow and lead the wedding day. If you choose to go with the wrong videographers and photographers, you could be left trying to organize things instead of enjoying your day.
Even when the professionals provide a timeline for the event, they must design it intelligently. In a way, that will allow the photographer and videographer coverage while you enjoy the event. It is important for everyone to understand you want to enjoy the time with your guest and get the best wedding video and photographs. This is something that beginner, outdate or inconsiderate videographers and photographers may not understand.
The Videographer and Photographers was Inexperienced and did not have updated Expertise and Skill
Hiring a photographer or videographer that are not current on their skills could give you horribly captured and/or edited photos and video. If your video and images are not done well, this would be a huge disappointment for the simple fact that wedding moments CAN NOT be redone. You don’t want images that are out-of-focus or low quality, or video that does not capture your key wedding moments. Although it may be tempting, you do not want to hire the cheapest photographer or videographer; you will have to pay a little more for a quality and experience of a seasoned wedding photographer and/or videographer. Wedding events can come with a huge bill and most couples are looking to save as much as possible; however, if you are thinking of skimping in this category, there's a huge chance you may regret it at the end. When you go shopping for cheaper budget-friendly options, you must know you may not be getting a skilled service and when you get the photographs and videos after the wedding, immediate regret may happen for the small amount you were able to
The Videographer and Photographer was Not Creative and did not Customize to your Specific Style.
Weddings are full of emotions and romantic moments. The reason for hiring professional videographers and photographers is to capture those emotions in the right way. Most couples have an image in their heads about how their wedding day should look and feel. You have your own personal style, and it is vital that you express this to your professional videographers and photographers. For example, there are professional videographers and photographers that specialize in capturing weddings in nature or even glam over the top weddings. The key here is fist identifying your wedding day style and then matching with a professional videographers and photographers that is able to capture that style.
Also, is the professional videographers and photographers creative? Or will you have the same pics from every other wedding in that photographer’s portfolio. Of course, some images will be alike but your personality should shine through to differentiate your wedding day from someone else’s wedding.

If those special moments are missed there's no reshooting them.
Not to mention the wedding decor and the thought that went into your colors, the flowers, the trinkets, all costly items that usually get overlooked by photographers inexperienced in capturing weddings.
